For the correct installation refer to the FAQs section, and the TECH-GUIDE for optimizing overall in the game.

Scourge
Developed by Hipnotic Interactive, Scourge of Armagon was the first official expansion pack released for Quake. The game takes place after the defeat of Shub-Niggurath at the end of the first game and with the player on a mission of preventing Quake's Lieutenant, Armagon, from invading Earth. Following in the tradition established in earlier titles such as Doom and Quake, Scourge of Armagon's storyline is only presented in brief text segments at the beginning and end of the game, leaving the emphasis on action. Scourge of Armagon boasts 17 new levels along with engine enhancements such as rotating brushes and destructible walls. The levels are divided into three separate episodes, though unlike Quake, the player does not get to choose the order in which they play them. Episodes are differentiated by map names (HIP1M1 for episode 1 map 1, HIP2M1 for episode 2 map 1,etc), brief end of episode cinematics (such as the teleportation at the end of HIP1M4), and overall themes (HIP1 is "base" style, HIP2 goes for a "castle" style). dissolution
Dissolution of Eternity is the second official expansion pack to Quake. Its storyline was little more than the player being required to find and kill Quake, though its simplistic narrative was offset by a diverse range of level themes and matching variety of new enemies. It would be Rogue Entertainment's sole work with the Quake engine and while it featured a Capture the Flag map and additional multiplayer modes by David "Zoid" Kirsch, it is remembered as the lesser of the two official Quake expansion packs.

At the beginning of the game, the player has the option to choose which episode to play, though there's no option to return to the first episode after completion of the second. Rather, it should be thought of as a simple way to skip ahead and check out the second half of the game. Several levels in the game are noted for their expansiveness, being littered with over a hundred enemies and taking upwards to a half hour to complete. Continue to www.giantbomb.com
